Team Working: from sport to company

Max Spini - Team Working & Team Coaching

The Team Working contains all those activities designed to promote and encourage the collaborative efforts of a group. Efforts oriented to the execution of Task aimed at achieving shared objectives.

We often hear about the concept of "motivation of people". In the world of sport, the coach must motivate athletes, in the company the manager must motivate the collaborators. In reality there is a more functional approach .

Team Working: Create a motivational environment

Instead of motivating people there is another approach: to create a motivational environment. An environment where there are the conditions that the people who immerse themselves can find inputs capable of stimulating the development of their motivation .

The target model

How can we create a motivational environment that stimulate team working? The target model is helpful, an acronym that indicates the 6 key factors to be considered in the construction of our motivational environment. This model, of sporting derivation, is well suited to the corporate world. The basic principles allow us to always keep an eye on the critical points that each team leader should cultivate and develop periodically.

Task: the things to do that are requested from the team

  • Are the requested tasks sufficiently challenging?
  • Are the individual characteristics of the members consider?
  • Are there shared methods in defining the objectives?

Authority: the type of authority put into practice by the team leader

  • Are the opinions of the group members of the group?
  • Do the members participate in decision -making processes?
  • Is the sense of responsibility of individuals developed?

Recognition: the practices in place to recognize the progress of the team

  • Are there any procedures defined for the recognition of people?
  • Are the procedures clear for everyone?
  • Are the possibilities of recognition accessible to anyone?

Grouping: the ways in which group members are grouped during the activities

  • Is the variety in the composition of the subgroups promoted?
  • Is autonomy in creating subgroups is granted?
  • Are creativity and collaboration adequately encouraged?

Evaluation: the methods used to evaluate performance

  • Are the criteria for the evaluation of performances are clear to the whole group?
  • Are self -evaluation processes by individuals?
  • Are the evaluation processes consistent over time?

Time: the management of timing relating to the activities of the team

  • Does the leader dedicate his time fairly to group members?
  • Is the importance of planning of activities adequately consider?
  • Are the times associated with the various tasks adequate?
Team Working & Team Building

This is only a taste of the target model, the possibilities of exploration and application are infinite, both in sporting contexts and in company contexts .
