Undoubtedly being mentally strong is a fundamental aspect to build a high -level career in the world of sport and also to be able to obtain the results we want. The reasons are different: being strong mentally allows us to better manage stress, allows us to improve our performances, allows us to be able to give the best of us continuously, allows us to recover from the defeats, allows us to better manage the recovery from injuries.

Generally the answer that is given to me when I ask this question is "mental weakness". In reality it is not so, because the correct answer is "mental sensitivity" . As a trainer in the neuro linguistic programming I would like to point out how the image you make of a "mentally weak" person changes compared to the image that your brain builds in reference to a "mentally sensitive" person.

A mentally sensitive person will accuse more strongly strong, stress than a mentally strong person, he will struggle a little more to manage emotions because he will have the tendency to enter more easily in deep contact with the emotion itself. But thanks to this, he is better at recognizing and understanding the emotions of others than a mentally strong person.

I made this important distinction because I want to make one thing clear: being mentally strong is not always a positive thing . Without an adequate degree of awareness , mental force can cause various types of problems.

  • It can be perceived as a domineering , even here with negative impacts on social relations.
  • He can struggle to recognize his weaknesses , thus losing sight of the possibility of growing and improving.
  • It may seem insensitive to those who do not have a high level of mental strength.
  • It may have difficulty recognizing emotions in others.
