Start running
" I'm not good at physical activity " is a very common excuse among those who want to start running or, more generally, engage in physical activity. Many people know they need to move to feel better, but they persist in finding excuses to stay on the couch. "I'm not good at it" is one of the most common excuses.
It goes something like this: the need arises, and therefore the desire, to start running or going to the gym. At this stage, I'm driven by the best intentions. After the initial enthusiasm, the first discomforts set in: lactic acid, fatigue, the typical aches and pains of those who aren't used to working out. Here, the circle closes with the statement "I'm not suited to it," which simplifies everything and allows us to find an excuse. The justification for the fact that, in reality, we simply don't feel like putting in the effort .
Human proportions
Polykleitos was an ancient Greek sculptor, famous for his treatise on the proportions of human anatomy. In his work, Polykleitos demonstrates that the legs represent exactly half of a person's height. Essentially, half of our body is represented by our legs . Does this mean anything to you? It means we were made to move .
I'll tell you more: we evolved because we were naturally strong long-distance runners . That's right: being natural ultramarathoners allowed us to chase prey, who beat us in sprinting, but who had no chance in long distance and endurance. This allowed us to improve the quality of our nutrition and consequently set out towards what we are today.
An unconventional ultramarathoner
Mirna Valerio was awarded the title of "Adventurer of the Year 2018" by the prestigious National Geographic . Mirna is a very unusual ultramarathon runner: she's 1.70 meters tall and weighs 115 kg. You read that right: she runs distances longer than a marathon and weighs 115 kg. You certainly can't say she's physically suited to running, but she does it anyway. A bit like the bumblebee: even today, we can't explain how it can fly given its size, but the bumblebee doesn't care; it just flies.
If a girl weighing over 100 kg can run long distances, I'm sure anyone can find the right balance when it comes to physical activity. If your goal is to start running get busy , get the medical tests you need, and get out there!
Do you have the best intentions but think you don't have time? " I don't have time" is also an excuse !
