Psychological Resilience: the 3 "C"

Max Spini - Coach and Resilience

Some sports research has led to the identification of the three main characteristics of athletes with psychological resilience. We can define these three characteristics as the three "Cs" of resilience.

Commitment, Control, Challenge

These 3 points are applicable in any context, not only in sport. Persons resilient in the professional or personal field have in fact in common these 3 characteristics.

Commitment is the ability to put effort into what you do. Being able to enjoy what you do thanks to passion.

By control , we mean seeing ourselves as capable of influencing our environment. In psychology, we talk about internal locus of control: believing ourselves responsible for what happens to us. This allows us to be an active participant in our own destiny.

By challenge we mean the ability to accept change and to view problems as challenges rather than obstacles.

Resilient people therefore have these 3 characteristics in common:

  • Commitment: they have the ability to commit themselves with passion and consistency
  • Control: they consider themselves responsible for their destiny
  • Challenge: They accept change with positivity and an open mind

Psychological resilience: self-assessment

Based on what you've read, you can assess your level of psychological resilience by answering a few simple questions. Think about one of your goals, a result you'd like to achieve, and then honestly answer the following questions.

Commitment

From 0 to 10 how really are you working to get what you have defined? (0 corresponds to any type of commitment, 10 corresponds to the maximum level)

Your answer satisfies you? What options do you have to be able to improve? What could you do immediately?

Control

How much 0 to 10 how much do you feel responsible for what happens to you? (0 are at the mercy of others and events, 10 are in total check)

Are you satisfied with your answer? What are the things you could do to improve? Which could you do immediately?

Challenge

How much 0 to 10 how much can you consider problems as challenges to overcome? What is your degree of opening towards change? (0 Detext the change, 10 The change allows me to survive)

Also in this case: do you like your answer? What could you do to improve?
